  • Search the internet about moving a pool table downstairs and you will find very little information about the D.I.Y approach but you will continuously be told that “this must be done by professionals”
Well forget that. If you have a few clues along with at least 3 solid friends and a reasonable size van or trailer, this absolutely CAN be done all by yourself.

The key to all this is to MAKE A SOLID FRAME that surrounds the slate top first and by doing this you will be able to complete this project WITHOUT removing the felt material and this will protect the slate from any flex or bending that may damage the stone and will also give you a great full 360o set of handles for the boys to hold onto when lifting and moving this very heavy key piece of equipment.

First off make sure you use a drop router to create a small 1 inch groove about ½ an inch deep into the 4×2 wooden frame.

Once you have removed all the pockets and rubber bumpers, slide the slate off the table just enough just to have it hanging over the edge and using a rubber mallet, tap the first bottom rail you have made with the groove in onto what will be the bottom side of the slate.

Then simply screw the shorter sides onto that bottom piece making sure the slate fits snugly into what should now start to look like a picture frame.
Then cut the ends off so the final top piece fits perfectly onto the sides completing the surrounding frame so you end up with the complete frame you will need to make the job as simple as it could possibly be.

It pays to make sure that there are no screw points sticking out for friends to cut themselves on and the screw heads also need to be well countersunk into the timber so you won’t scratch the floor of get stuck on any carpet you may be dragging this across.

If you have access to a suction cup style handle, the type a glazier would use for moving large panes of glass with as this will help if you can place it smack bang in the middle of the exposed slate side to give the bloke who’s looking after the middle something to grab onto and avoid hurting his back by trying to lift this extremely heavy object the wrong way.

Trust me on this, this is without a doubt the best way to do the job correctly and hey, if you have to spend 50 bucks on some 4×2 and screws it’s always going to cheaper than paying someone $300 to $400+ to do the job for you.

    A really funny commercial.
You HAVE to watch it x]

We are old friends, the company's product quality has been always very good and this time the price is also very cheap.
