The Tariff Commission of the State Council has announced that, in accordance with China's commitment to give zero-tariff treatment to 97 percent of tariff items of products from the least developed countries that have established diplomatic relations with China, starting from 1 August 2020, zero-tariff treatment will be applied to 97 percent of tax items originating in Kiribati, covering a total of 8,256 tax items.
In March 2013, President Xi Jinping announced at the DIALOGUE between BRICS and African leaders that China pledged to give zero-tariff treatment to 97 percent of tax items from the least developed countries that have diplomatic ties with China.China has implemented zero tariff on 97% tax items to 38 least developed countries, including Bangladesh, which have established diplomatic relations with China and completed exchange of documents.
On July 1, 2020, I granted Kiribati most favored nation status in terms of import and export tariffs. On this basis, I implemented zero tariff on 97 percent of tax items of Kiribati, which is conducive to jointly building "One Belt And One Road" with Kiribati, strengthening bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the field of economy and trade, and jointly realizing sustainable development and prosperity.
